Won Ton is a 5 year old Shih Tzu who weighs 15lbs. She has a nonsheddig coat that is an option for those who have allergies and/or simply want a dog who doesn't shed. She had to be completely shaved down because she had never been groomed in her entire life prior to coming into our rescue. The following is from her foster home:

This sweet girl is going to make someone very happy. True to the Shih Tzu breed, she will be a great, mellow and happy companion. She’s quiet, gentle and loves to just lay next to you or in her bed nearby. Although everything is new and a little scary to her she is curious and wants to explore, slowly. Her little tails wags happily when she is spoken to sweetly. She is very loving and gets attached pretty quickly. With some TLC this girl is going to blossom!

She seems to be more confident with adults, so would definitely be well matched with a patient, gentle and loving adult household. She is easily startled by new sounds and will often try to hide or retreat. She needs someone that will be patient, reassuring and lavish her with positive reinforcement while she is exposed to new sounds and experiences and builds her trust and confidence.

She is not a barker so would probably be a good option for apartment living.

She has a good appetite and likes tasty treats which will help with her confidence and trust building training. She is currently eating three small meals a day.

She is fully housebroken. Currently she is taken outside on a leash to go potty at various times and previously she had full access to go in and out to a yard on her own. She will only need access to an enclosed yard or to be taken out on a leash for a short walk.

She does well with dogs her size. She is currently fostered with 3 other small dogs. She is slowly getting used to taking short walks to the park on a harness and leash. She doesn’t pull on the leash unless she is startled by a new sound such as a basketball bouncing. Taking walks with at least one other dog really helps with her confidence building outside of the home.

She is easily startled in new environment but easily adapts with positive reinforcement.

So far she doesn’t play with toys but has shown a little interest in one toy. With encouragement she might learn to play with toys.

She isn’t dog or people reactive and is not aggressive. She doesn't growl and isn't food aggressive.

She appears to be crate trained and will go nap in the crate. She is also fine out of a crate too. She is comfortable sitting and laying anywhere in the house, on the couch, in a dog bed, in a crate or on the floor. She currently sleeps on the bed with her foster family (including other dogs) at night but could easily learn to sleep in her bed or crate at her new home, as long as it’s near her people or other dog.

She is a long haired Shih Tzu and will require regular grooming.

Won Ton is only an option for a home that has had a dog in the last 3 years. If a home has worked with shy shut down dogs before, that is a huge bonus. If there are children they need to be over the age of 8.
